World AIDS Day

I've always considered myself one of the "lucky ones"; for whatever reason, HIV/AIDS only hit close to me three times in my life. There was J, this talented guy that I knew (when he was only 18 years old, he played John Merrick in a production of The Elephant Man at his college), he was only 22 when he was taken down by this fucking disease - that was in 1985. Then there was G, a co-worker, who was one of the most outrageous guy's I'd ever met. He transferred from our office in 1987 and passed away a few month's later. His family kept everything quiet and no funeral or memorial service notices ever came our way. Finally there was H, the long time companion to a dear friend of mine, who fought the good fight for a long time, who, deep in my heart, I felt, might actually beat this thing; he'd bounced back so many times before that final time; that final time was the clincher. That was just a few years back.

Today is World AIDS Day.
